stickboy
Can anyone suggest where I might find any Japanese style houses and buildings? I have ordered a kit from Hobby World, but there did not seem to be much other choice. I am really after rural style buildings rather than modern urban ones. I expect to have to scratch build a lot of what I need, but I would like a couple of kits first to get a feel for the proportions and textures... This is the one I ordered, (sorry I don't know how to abbreviate the link) http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.tomytec.co.jp/diocolle/lineup/tatemono80/index.html&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dtomytec%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-GB:official%26hs%3DRCH&rurl=translate.google.co.uk&usg=ALkJrhj--qZr2vrea3VkKN-yHI_lYOYV9w Any help greatly appreciated! Thanks Phil Link to comment

harukablue
You can use modern buildings such as gas stations from American/European makers, the only Japanese buildings that i know of in 1/80 are by Hiruma Model Craft but DDF did make a small station model in resin a few years ago but it was very expensive in the region of Y13000 for the constructed building,# I use a mix n match of the above and PikeStuff for my Engine shed, Lew Link to comment
stickboy
Thanks for the info! Bill- they look great, but 50 bucks for a paper model seems expensive! Lew- I like the Hiruma models, I found a website... (http://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?hl=en-GB&u=http://hmc-onlineshop.jp/%3Fmode%3Dcate%26cbid%3D425357%26csid%3D1&rurl=translate.google.com&usg=ALkJrhgvpcWo-8XSz9SjA3goL5wq_aLjuw), ...but can't seem to find an English language distributer... can I ask where you get yours? Thanks again Phil Link to comment
harukablue
I get mine via JAA's online shop service https://www.japan-auction-agency.com if you want station platforms UK stuff isnt that far off as here we use 1/76 high platforms that are nearly level with 1/80 rolling stock, take a look at peco, Lew Link to comment
marknewton
- they look great, but 50 bucks for a paper model seems expensive! I'm waiting on the arrival of one of these: http://www.hwjapan.com/sh/SKE84317.aspx Once I've got it I'll post a review. I agree they're pricey, but I'm intending to use this model as a sort of template for scratchbuilding other buildings, so I'm prepared to wear the cost. Most of the structures I need will be modern urban-style buildings, which I think lend themselves well to scratchbuilding. I've been working on and off on some drawings of buildings I want to make. Compared to the older rural structures I built for my last layout, I think these will be much simpler to build. Cheers, Mark. Link to comment

stickboy
Thanks again guys Mark , I look forward to your review! I have similar ideas, using a kit as a starting point for scratching similar buildings. Do you have any pictures of the structures you made for your last layout? Lew- I agree with Bernard, what a fantastic resource that station site is! Thanks! Cheers Phil Link to comment
