ben_issacs
Folks, Rather confused reports of a runaway train ? locomotive in Cairo station, Egypt. Photos show a diesel loco, the reports call it a rail car. Loco hit buffer stop, fuel tank burst, fuel caught fire, at least 25 dead. Further accurate info. would be welcomed. Regards, Bill, Melbourne. Link to comment
Sheffie
Sounds like it may have been a brake failure, or possibly human error https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-47384443 Edited March 1, 2019 by Sheffie Link to comment
cteno4
Just saw a report on nhk. Apparently the driver got into a fight with another employee and stepped off the train w.o brake on and it took off and was on a down hill slope to boot... jeff Link to comment
ben_issacs
Folks, Initial reporting of this incident lousy, locomotives reported as rail cars, drivers reported as conductors, although that my be their title in Egypt. The smash occurred in Cairo's main station, but there must be a down grade into the platforms for the un-braked loco to run away. Not even sure if there were carriages involved as well as the loco. The casualties seem to have been amongst people on the platform. Regards, Bill, Melbourne, Where at the moment it's 36 Deg.C. perhaps not Cairo, but damned hot! Link to comment
