Fenway Park
Hi, I probably model an era that is earlier than most of the members on this group: JNR Kyushu 1962-1975. I have acquired many Kato/Tomix/Modemo/Micro Ace coaches over the years. Kato upgraded their 32/33/35 series some years ago and they led to the departure of my Tomix 33/35 stock. The latest Tomix coaches were of the 61 series which were post WW2 wooden bodies on older underframes and these were quickly followed by the 32/36 series coaches. So no need to build Green Max sets. I have the Modemo 32 Series and the Tomix version is so much better. You can add TN couplers so I can have fixed sets a la Sothern Region on British Railways. Tomix first upgraded their coaches with their 12/13 day cars which are streets ahead of the Kato version. So now I have un-finished GM coach kits which I doubt will ever be completed. I am intigrued as the Oigawa Railway and the other steam routes use 42/43 series coaches and not those offered by Tomix so the new releases would not be that popular Link to comment

Fenway Park
Hi Photos to follow once I have purchased a new card for the camera. Today I attached the TN couplers 0373 to the 32 series coaches leaving the Rapido couplers on the end Suhafu 32 coaches. Next will be the 61 series. I decided to leave the Rapido couplers on the Mani 36 baggage cars as these can be added to parcels trains etc. The overall effect is very good with a buckeye coupler but of a different design to 0371 which I have used on DMUs etc. The only DMUs I have without TNs are the Kato 52 6041/6042 and the Micro Ace 07 series. The latest Kato 30 series will couple to the TNs so I was sorry to see Kato offering their re-issue of the 52 series with the Rapido coupler as standard. Tomytec Train Collection 10 has meant three more railcars including the KIHA 04. Although there are mounts for TNs on the floor of these models they do not fit very well or at all. No worries as the 04 will operate as a single unit. Next I will have to find some more Kato 11-702 couplers for the Kato sets. Link to comment
Bernard
Is it hard changing over from the Rapido couplers to the Kato 11-702 couplers? I have some Kawai freight cars and would like to change the couplers. Link to comment
Fenway Park
The Kawai wagons are similar to Tomix and Micro Ace as they have a metal clip over the coupler. You need a small flat blade screwdriver to lever off the cover. Be careful not to lose the spring. Change coupler and replace metal cover. Not as easy as Kato vehicles. Link to comment
