Mauka
Kato 2016-9 - **Pre-Order eta August 2019** 2-8-2 D51 Standard Steam Loco Japanese Railway - N Scale Been wanting to add a large size steam locomotive to my all Shinkensen roster of N Scale. This looks like a good choice, opinions? https://www.1999.co.jp/eng/image/10589808/30/1 Link to comment
katoftw
What opinions are you chasing? It is basicly just a re do of a prevoius model. Runs well. Not noisey. Quality made. Link to comment
Mauka
Thank you! Kato trains have been good for me, any chance it might be DCC ready? Alan Link to comment
Kiha66
Its not dcc ready, but the tender is designed with space for a decoder and the motor is isolated from the frame so as to be a relevantly easy conversion as far as N scale steam goes. Link to comment
ben_issacs
Mauka, What are you going to run behind your D 51? Freight or pass..? For pass. half a dozen old style Grape or blue colour cars, 30 or 60 series would be o.k. to represent a pass set in the 1950's, or a present day steam special.. Freight, not sure as to whether container flats would have been seen behind a steamer, the older four wheelers and bogie cars could do, another variation would be a train of eight or ten Seki 3000 or 6000 coal hoppers with a Yo guards's van, typical Hokkaido in the 60's. Or a similar train of the short bogie tank waggons, Poppondetta make stacks of these, but if you run them behind a steamer, you need a van behind the tender as a barrier waggon for sparks from the engine, this could be another Yo van. The only trouble with the little four wheeled freight cars is that they are a bit track sensitive and prone to occasional derailments. Regards, Bill, Melbourne. Link to comment
