Fukuoka Station

The actual Fukuoka station is a single track station on the former Hokuriku Main Line, now a third sector railway.  However I agree that Paul's station is much closer to what most would consider the "Fukuoka's station" (Hakata) which only beats Pauls layout by two tracks, which is pretty impressive!  I think Paul comes the closest out of all of us for modeling the traffic of a proper Japanese main line station.

Since I've been mentioned as being the originator of the idea for the name ,I mentioned it to Paul having seen film of it on YouTube. He adopted it but the most recent claim to fame was a massive cave in at a street corner a year or two back and the speed it was supposed to be filled in!!!!

Hakata is the name of the main station in the actual city and it's a very impressive building and shopping centre.

I got around a bit of Europe but Japan only came onto my radar a few years ago and I don't see me ever getting there but it's been a super education and without the internet it wouldn't have happened.

Can I say a big thank you to the members of the forum for putting up with me!

I live close to Fukuoka, with the main station being Hakata but there is a Minami-Fukuoka station. (South Fukuoka)

Theres quite a large rail yard there on the Kagoshima line. It’s right next to the station so good for rail fans.

The next station south from Hakata is Takeshita which always gets my British visitors laughing.

Theres also a Minami Hakata with a bullet train depot. Essentially there’s a station for locals to commute by bullet trains that are going to and from the depot.

They have a free open day in October with just the cost of the bullet train between Hakata and Minami Hakata. I think it was about ¥500 so must be the cheapest Shinkansen ticket in Japan.

2017 had the Evangelion 500 but 2018 had this monstrosity 😂

The cheapest possible shinkansen ticket is from Echigo-Yuzawa to Gala-Yuzawa at 240 yen (according to Hyperdia). The Hakataminami - Hakata connection is 300 yen.

Though since Echigo-Yuzawa to Gala-Yuzawa takes a mere 3 minutes compared to the 10 minutes of Hakataminami, I guess at the latter you get more bang for your buck. Not to mention that Galayuzawa is only a seasonal line.

For reference, traveling from Tokyo to the nearest station (Shinagawa) costs 1030 yen.

All prices including are the ride-fee and the bum-fee.

I am honestly surprised that those in the Japanese train loving community haven't heard of Fukuoka before.

Too many people don't get out of the Tokyo area 🙂

I am sure many people have passed through Fukuoka station without being aware of its existence - I know I have.

The locals pride themselves on being the 3rd city in Japan although I think this is heavily contested by Nagoya.

I went to get my cataracts done three years ago and one of my fellow patients had been in the British Merchant Navy.He mentioned Fukuoka as one of the ports he'd sailed in and out of.

So today we had the first visitors to Fukuoka Station.

all track tests and clearances were good.

nothing fixed in place yet just loosely laid.

I think The platforms may be past their best and it’s likely, after having a go at making good, that I ll replace them but I’ll see what happens. One thing s for certain and that’s I ll be leaving all the roofs off as it makes for better viewing of the trains and it’s easier to track clean.

Now to do the same on the freight yard!👍😀

Freight yard and overall.

Love the passenger terminal but I would not want to be an n scale passenger waiting for my train in the rain and or hot sun. 🙂  Can't wait to see you do some scenic magic.

So I finallly managed to wire all the points bar two which I ll finish at the weekend.

i ve loosely laid out some of the buildings to see how it may look once done and so I can see where to cut out for the tram track.

The LH side behind the tall buildings is where the mountain will be.

freight yard,

My son ogled the depot a number of times when we were in Kyushu and got to spot a number of gems they have stashed away there such as the 100 Series double deck cars and the WIN350, the only thing that got him more excited was when he saw the FGT-9000 sitting in the Kumamoto depot.

Wow... just Wow...

Paul, could you please share what you eat each day for breakfast in order to achieve all that in such a short period of time? I would love to do the same! 🙂

It's looking great now buddy! Very nice! Bet it would be fun to run all 6 trains together!

Thanks Sammy.

It helps enormously when you already have the stuff you need mate, that’s one advantage of a rebuild rather than starting from scratch.

Will put a video up in due course buddy👍👍😀The best bit is bringing them out of the sidings or putting them away,it’s great watching them weave across all the double crossovers!👍😀

Yes it’s pretty good for a free event. I prefer JR East shinkansens for variety and colour but it’s still a good day out.

Yesterday I cut out and laid the tram track in position and mocked up the city area with the buildings I have.

some of the cheaper Outland models will more than likely be replaced with some more of theirs but more up to date ones.I find they re ideal as the depth of most is only 5-6cms which is pretty small for a high rise making them ideal for a small space.Admittedly they re basic but offer good value for money imho.

Next job is to get the trams wired up and running.

For anyone that may be intrested I ve published a short video to YouTube of trains running.

With everything laid loosely in place this is more or less how the final layout will look.

a short video showing a few trains running while track testing for clearances etc. and also checking the electrics.
