What's on your shopping list?

Recommended Posts

These are in roughly chronological order

  1. Kato 10-011 Starter set: C57 & Banetsu Monogatari (paid for and en route)
  2. Kato V5 inner loop set
  3. 1 or 2 remote control switches and either a double crossover or single crossover or maybe two #4 turnouts, depending on whether I'm actually going to run two loops or something more clever
  4. A regular Kato truss bridge and a Kato Plate Girder Bridge, in grey or silver (not sure, will need to find them in a store to compare)
  5. Two single-track tunnel entrance models.... no idea what to get
  6. A couple of those little buffer thingummies (not sure what Americans call them) to sit at the end of the sidings, assuming I don't just go for a double loop.
  7. Freight cars! Depending on what's available, a pair of Hoki 2500 limestone carriers, a pair of Wamu 70/80/90k box cars, and/or a pair of Temu 300 covered wagons
  8. A nice diesel or electric freight locomotive. I still like the EF210 more than anything else I've seen.
  9. One or two guard's vans, so a pair of Wafu-101 brake vans would be ideal if I can get them.
  10. Kato's rural freight station kit
  11. Models of a couple of cars and at least one van or truck, plus some peeps.

That should keep me busy for a while.

Anything which runs/ran on any of these three lines:

 - Chuo/Chuo Sobu line

 - Berliner Stadtbahn (before ca. 2008)

 - any route through Birmingham (before ca. 1991)

Also anything else which takes my fancy especially if it's going cheap on Yahoo Auctions.

Tragically for my bank account and storage space, the Internet makes it very easy to "justify" all kinds of surprising things - to date my best achievement is "justifying" a Kansai liveried 101 series on the Chuo Line (bottom picture) from MicroAce (well it was only 5000 yen, new).

My list has changed almost beyond recognition. It's still in roughly priority / chronological order though.

  1. Hoki 2500 or 9500 (limestone car) if they are ever available for less than $40 (the current eBay scalper price, it seems)
  2. Kato wooden engine house
  3. E127-0 EMU, 2 cars, in Niigata Color
  4. 4-5 Koki 104-6-7 and containers (2 x 30ft Seino if available, 2 x 20ft in 2 styles, 2 x 20ft tanks if I can find them cheap, 5 x 12ft in 2 styles)
  5. More bulk freight cars ,e.g. Hoki2200 (wheat), Hoki 5700 (cement), Taki 5450 (chemical/lime?) Ya 500 (chemical)
  6. Guard's van with tail lights, probably Wafu 29500
  7. Track and a buffer (Z gauge) for the mine entrance
  8. Two single tunnel entrances
  9. Trees: some cherry blossom and some others to be determined after research
  10. Perhaps: Kato's rural platform kit.
  11. One or two scenic backdrops. I ought to get something featuring a lake in mountains (ideally from Niigata or Fukushima in springtime) and if I get a second one it'd be some kind of rustic mineworking in the same mountains. This may be something I can create myself and print at a FedEx place
  12. Perhaps: Catenary poles
  13. An old fashioned or beat up or rural style truck.
  14. Perhaps: steam engine coal and water supply facility
  15. Station workers - guard / conductor / station master, freight handlers, perhaps steam engine attendants
  16. Mineworkers and a mine entrance (possibly a repurposed double tunnel entrance).
  17. Perhaps: lighting for three coaches (a nice warm shade) and two coaches (a fluorescent shade).
  18. Horses cows pigs and/or sheep

Kato E6 re-release.

TGV sud-est in orange (still kinds hoping for a re-release, on ebay the prices seem to really fluctuate between dirt cheap for a 10 car set, or 'i know what i got' prices for a six car set).

TGV Duplex either in silver-Blue, or the later black-white livery.

V3 track set.

Kato E4.

Well, right now I am still continuing the purchase trains/trams which I have ridden on (or at least photographed/got video of).  But these are the primary ones I have my eyes set on that are coming out in a few months and a few classics that I'm waiting year after year for a possible re-release.

I have my eyes on the TOMIX 981119 KIHA 40 set.

The KATO 10-1934 Azusa Kaiji E353 - Y17,050 (May 2023)

The Micro Ace A2274 Joyful Train "Hana" will be released on July 31st.... But not sure if I want to spend Y26,685 ($200US).

The TOMIX JR Type DF200-200 #201, Ai-Me (released in August 203)

I seriously want the Modemo release of this (NT116) but it's too expensive from resellers...ughh....

I have had opportunities in the past but kicking myself in the foot for not getting it.  KATO 10-238 Fujikyuko "Fujisan-Limited Express".

Modemo Tokyu Series 300 (NT113).  I want this Turqouise Green color...but it's a pain....

Not priority but I'll pick it up someday:

Building, lots of buildings. I have enough track (for the time being), l need buildings and landscape material.

Did l mention I'm  in Osaka RIGHT NOW!

I'm being let off my chain on Monday or Tuesday and have about 10kg spare in my luggage.

I'm certain there will be a "oh l don't know how that got in there" conversation when we get home.

I want a turntable but they are $300, which is a few locomotives.

I finally finished building my boat so now it's time to build the N guage layout.

I'll  be back.

Weather here is superb.

Le sigh.  Another day of shopping cart mayhem at 1999.  I've had a pile of very assorted items that I want to buy from there to get everything in one shipping box.

Alas, there are two key items, both of which keep rotating which one is in stock.  The Tomytec power unit for the Railway Collection Kihas had been out for some time, but came back as scheduled early in April.  Can't combine reserve orders and cart orders at 1999, so I was just waiting rather than putting in a reservation.  The first batch all sold out instantly, probably all went to reservations.  Then the Hitachinaka Seaside Railway kihas sold out.  Now they keep rotating.  Today, motors are in, kihas are out.  Notification is turned on again for the return of the kiha...

Buy the trains you like, not because they are different than what others have.

Or if that's a real motivator you can't shake, you should look way past the E353 and into some dark third-sector railways. Lots of people have the E353 as well. It's quite popular.

There are also the E257 and E657 that are seen in the heart of Tokyo.
