cteno4
The disaster occurred as a passenger train and a freight train passed each other on a windswept bridge, but it was not immediately clear what happened. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-denmark-accident/six-killed-in-train-crash-on-bridge-linking-denmarks-two-main-islands-idUSKCN1OW0IM https://www.nytimes.com/2019/01/02/world/europe/denmark-train-crash.html?smprod=nytcore-ipad&smid=nytcore-ipad-share 1 Link to comment
scotspensioner
It appears that a freight train carrying curtainsided lorry/truck trailers was damaged by high winds on the bridge releasing beer crates onto the track and leaving some overhanging the adjacent track on which a high speed dmu was approaching at speed. The Passenger train had the side of the front coach ripped out. The bridge basically connects the two halves of Denmark Link to comment
scotspensioner
Further to the above I've just watched a Danish TV news item on RailUK Forums. This shows a freight train with several curtainsided lorries badly damaged and what appears to be an upside down trailer wedged under the front of the passenger train. It appears that the freight train was damaged by the high winds.
