E259 Narita Express: Kato or Tomix?

Continuing my theme of buying trains that I traveled on, I am looking at Series E259 Narita Express. But any thoughts / suggestions on which one between the Kato or Tomix models I should go for?

Not huge different.

Kato has dcc slots and preprinted numbers.

Tomix has no preprinted number but a transfer sheet with 8 different running numbers sets.

Kato it is. Thinking of trying DCC in the future. Do any of the Tomix shinkansens have dcc slots? Have the 500 and 700 Tomix Shinkansens.

As far as I'm aware kato is the only company that has any sort of DCC compatibility designed in.  Older non-dcc ready kato units are also easy to convert to DCC, while tomix ones require more modifications to wire in a decoder.

They shouldn't have.  You pushed the black piece backwards to make the couplers free moving? As per instruction booklet.

I forgot kato does that on a few models, I wonder what the benefit is of locking them in place.  Does it look better or something?

No worries, you're not the only one. Thanks to this thread I have now solved the same issue with my 253 series, which is one of the many items I acquired cheaply then put away pending further investigation.
