I am afraid that my Tomix 300 series is now officially dead once and for all.

The train once again mysteriously starting to play up and once again I pulled it apart and cleaned all of the parts - I even polished all of the copper/brass pick ups, springs and copper pick ups in the bogies.

I lubricated all of the parts and checked for shorts.

Despite all of that, the trains would stop start around the track stopping for no apparent reason.

When I finally pulled it apart one last time, all of the clips that hold the floor to the body, broke off. I guess I had pulled the thing apart so many time they must of become fatigued.

I now have a Tomix 300 series without a motorised carriage!

I have checked the motor and it seems to work when it is unconnected to the bogies.

I am compeltely bewildered and P***ed off at the $200 train sitting their with no way of getting a replacement carriage.

I am going to bed now....

Alpine,

You have the worst luck with your trains! It pains me to hear this latest story.

Tomix is generally pretty good with the spare parts; perhaps some inquiries with HS or Popondetta will settle the matter (if you just need the piece with the plastic tabs that broke).

Is it possible to fashion new latches from magnet wire?

Not that it matters if it won't run…hrm.

Can you send it to Tomix?  Was there a warranty on the product?

Warranties on Japanese trains are only valid in Japan for domestic sale.  As soon as they leave Japan they loose the warranty.  Also Tomix does not pursue export sales.

This is where Tomix documents misprints and other problems. I don't see any mention of that train set.

What kind of controller are you using?

I will check if Popendetta can get the parts in.

They dont have a 300 series on sale (and havent had for as long as I have been buying from them).

The only 300 series around seem to be on Japanese auction sites.

Capt - you've hit the nail on the head mate. It is only the plastic floorboard that has the little clps on it. But of course without those clips the floorboard doesnt sit in place for the springs to supply power. Even if I was to fix that problem, the bloody thing doesnt work anyway.

I am now suspecting that it is:

a) the bogies that somehow get caught;

b) the Bachmann Dynamis system that I am using; or

c) act of God.

I am now on the lookout for another 300 series.

mmmm...

that's a bad thing because Tomix 300 is hard to find in used market, you can try to buy only the add-on single power car on Yahoo auction (not so simple to find but around 4-5000JPY...), I'm not sure but maybe the engine for old Tomix Shinkansen 25 meters cars is the same, so you can use one 100 series engine to replace it (it's much simple to find at low price if in bad condition whit yellowed couplers around 1500-2000JPY)

if you can wait I verify this weekend if Tomix 100 and 300 use the same engine, please be patient ;-)

ciao

Massimo
