Tomix 90099 Wide Tram Set **New**

It seems that Tomix has quietly updated the old Tomix 90094 wide tram set.  And with this new set there is a new FG-17 compact power unit. A word of warning here. Tomix tram power units have historically been 9 volts or less.  I suspect the FG-17 is 9 volts also, although there is no information to confirm this yet. The FG-17 comes with an AC adapter. No mention of how many turnout control slots there are.  These 9 volt power units have historically not been available for individual purchase, only through the purchase of one of these track sets.  They are great for Tomytec trams but too under powered for N scale trams like Bachmann or Arnold.

The same controller is packaged with normal starter sets too and it's a 12V DC 500 mA unit, so about half the power of a full pack, but full 12V voltage.

Yes, but you can use the new turnout power unit for that (5529) or a full 1 amps (or better) throttle. It's possible to roll your own (using the 12V power with a splitter) or just use the manual turnouts if you don't want to wire too much. For trams on a loop and maybe an R140 manual turnout set or the new yards set, this is enough.

It looks like it’s an all R140 loop instead of the usual 140/177 combo...

In this case the 5507 costs just 20% more and you'll get a full controller too.

 

And as i said, just getting a few spdt switches, a few current limiting 1000, 2200, 4700 uF caps and building your own switchboard is a good and cheap alternative. Especially that with a few rotary switches, you can build a very simple route selection too.
