defor
Saw these containers (In fully populated Koki's) on three occassions during my last trip at the end of August: Each time I wasn't ready in time with camera. https://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/anchinsan_container/53385463.html Anyone know what the story is with them? they clearly look like they've been rebadged, but I don't understand the meaning of "環" in the circle that's on them. katoftw
W is for inturnally insulated I think. So maybe just old 19D and they added insulation. Link to comment
defor
A friend is telling me that they actually are for waste transport, I.E. recycling transport, and the yellow mark is indicative of this.... 1 Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
Correct, they are for waste transport, hence the "W" designation. Link to comment

They are waste management conversions of some of the older 19D's that have gone in for refurbishment, I am unsure as to how many have been converted but I know there are at least 15 of them looking at the photo's I have seen, the use of numbering sequences to get an idea of how many there are is no good as the containers are picked from throughout the fleet and have the W Prefix added to them after conversions. With the W18F's on the other hand there was only 10 of them, they were built in 2008 and are only used in Hokkaido. 9 hours ago, chadbag said: It would have been better to not post that URL... katoftw
I guessed as much. Looks like they just grabed somecontainers near their end of life. Painted on a W and only used them for waste from the point on knowing said waste may be hazardious. Link to comment
