Only snag is I can't work out what the real thing uses - are they buckeyes throughout or some Shibatas? Tomix give part numbers for both for some reason! Link to comment

The photos on Hobbysearch (which look to be from a trade fair) show Shibatas within the set and buckeyes on the outer ends. Wasn't sure whether this was realistic or a case of Tomix fitting the samples out with whatever they could lay hands on. At present I have 92409 and the KaYa 27-500 on order, 92408 will follow shortly. I can run the first two with my ED79 or pair of DD51s until then. The KaYa is a combination generator van and shop, as I understand it. It's used in place of the lounge car which usually runs at that end of the train. One thought, the KaYa must have some sort of universal coupler on the inner end. In that photo it's coupled to a conventional blue sleeper, and I've seen a video of it being moved between a pair of EF81s. Presumably there must be something like the couplers used on KuMoYas, which have both Shibata and buckeye fittings. Edited August 2, 2018 by Welshbloke Additional thought! 2 Link to comment

Welshbloke Posted August 3, 2018 Author Share Posted August 3, 2018 Ah, that might also explain why it was coupled to another coach in the sidings. Judging by those photos fitting the adapter would take some time, which isn't helpful when shunting or recovering a broken train. The other end of the coach will have a standard knuckle making it a lot easier to shuffle the KaYa around. Link to comment
Kiha66 Posted August 4, 2018 Share Posted August 4, 2018 (edited) Its actually quite quick to shift, the coupler contains both a knuckle side and a shibata side. To switch the coupler just has to be rotated about 60 degrees.
