bill937ca
Something new and it's not a train! To quote The Mainichi Daily News: "Due to revisions to the Public Holiday Law, Japanese residents will for the first time enjoy a 5-day holiday break beginning Sep. 19 and dubbed "Silver Week." The 2003 holiday revisions shifted Respect for the Aged Day from Sep. 15 to the third Monday of September, creating this year's 5-day stretch, called "Silver Week" as a fall counterpart to the "Golden Week" holiday in May." http://mdn.mainichi.jp/mdnnews/national/archive/news/2009/09/12/20090912p2a00m0na010000c.html Monday September 21 is Respect for the Aged Day and Wednesday September 23 is Autumnal Equinox Day. By Japanese law when there is a day between two National Holidays that day also becomes a National Holiday. Hence Japan is shutdown for 5 days. Both Hobby Search and Hobby World Japan have calendars on the lower part of their home pages that show a calendar of when they are open and closed. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/rail/ http://www.hwjapan.com/sh/kengte.aspx?mk=&sc=28 Link to comment
bill937ca
Next week is Silver Week in Japan. Hobby Search, Hobby World Japan and Rainbow Ten will be closed Saturday September 19 through Wednesday September 23rd and reopen on Thursday September 24th. This is something new. Some people in Japan hope Sliver Week will become an annual event like Golden Week. I will post more detailed explanation later. Don't tell me the next holiday is going to be "Bronze Week". I know Tokyo is bidding on the 2016 Summer Olympics but that would be too much. :) Apparently the silver in Silver Week comes from hair color not golden/silver/bronze. http://www.nihonsun.com/2009/09/17/silver-week-in-japan/ In that case the next week color might be blond. Any blonds here? Link to comment
