Kato 10-377 DCC friendly??

Hi all,

 

Today I received a Kato 10-377 E2 Shinkansen.

I thought this model is DCC friendly, so it should accept an EM13 decoder.

But after opening the motorcar that doesn't seem to be case.

 

Very strange as the headcars do accept a FL12 decoder.

 

Can anyone tell me how I should place an EM13 in this train, or doesn't it accept an EM13?

Rhere is a lot of older Kato models that have similar dcc configuations. Cab cars okay, but motor cars need to be wieed in. Dunno about tour specific model. But being a -377, that is fairly old.

I wasn't aware of trains that can use FL12 but no EM13.

Strange that Kato produced them like this.

 

Now to find a way to get my E2 motor digitalized.

The motor chassis is probably an older design than the cab car chassis or the cab cars share components with fully DCC ready models.

 

You can use any wired decoder (for example the digitrax DZ12x series) or wire an EM13 in using the 4 contact pads as solder pads.

Hello,

 

When Kato first got into DCC there were a few models released where decoders would not fit.  I am struggling to remember the details but somewhere around 2010 - 2011 Kato "withdrew" the "DCC Friendly" status from a few models around this time.  Is this jogging anyone's memory here?

 

Perhaps the E2 was one of those, but I can't be sure.  Checking the Kato website, 10-377 is not listed as DCC Friendly.
