So I reneged on what I said earlier.

 

Still to cold to go out to the workshop and we had snow on and off over the last few days (Nowhere near as much as North east Japan though) so it was indoors modelling only

 

Looking at the B Type buses they were a reasonably quick project. The one already finished as a 'Battle bus' was down on one corner of the suspension as a result of a poor repair so this was cracked off and reset

 

The other two were given a good bath in warm soapy water to soften the paper advertising stickers. Once they were scraped off the areas were keyed to ensure that the new paint would stick. The waterslide decals were soaked in Microscale Micro Sol setting solution that made short work of them. The boarded up lower windows were done plank by plank once I had scraped away the Humbrol paint that was set like concrete. The driver is only there while the glue sets on the re-attached steering column

 

 

 

Areas that looked if they has a thicker coat of varnish were scratchcoated with a fibre glass pencil to key them ready for the Hycote plastic grey primer I added the the cancas drapes to the canopy to protect the driver

I have a couple Panther tank kits somewhere I bought like 20+ years ago.  Need to find them and show the boy how to build models.  I think they are 1/35 Dragon, but that is from memory.

It sems strange to get the soldering iron out when i'm working on a plastic kit but that is what I've been doing this aftenoon

 

The Caddy has progressed nicely despite the heavy flash on some of the mouldings.

 

 

The wire wheels have been replaced with heavy duty steel ones (Tonda resin cast ones) on brass axles. paint is Tamiya desert yellow. Had a nightmare getting the dashboard in after I glued the body to the chassis. The soldering was the hood rails fabricated in Nickel silver ready or the canvas. ordered some 1/35th Redog sandbags which are just right for mail bags.that were tied on the sides in quite large quantities

 

 

As I'm working from a few poor photographs a lot of this is conjecture but it is starting to look right.

 

On the bonnet written in English and Arabic was

so I might have to do a bit of headscratching on that bit

My 1/10 scale Suzuki Carry.

So the two red and white B type Buses look a bit different now. lead one has a detachment of French 'Chasseurs alpins' hitching a ride with their flag hung proudly on the side. Secong one wil also probably also have French troops on. The barrel and bicycle on the cab roof are tied down with real thread. The 'M.T.C' lettering came from a gauge 1 'private owner' wagon decal sheet and the I.D numbers came from an 0 gauge version of the same

 

 

The flag was downloaded off the internet, scaled to size and printed on card stock. Note i has a sag in it. I will seal it with 'final coat' lacquer aerosol just so it wears better

 

whilst I was weathering the buses I took the opportunity to do the Whippet and the Tadpole at the same time

 

 

I'd got a Mastercard which had some excess funds on it so of course I had to finally indulge

 

 

This kit can be built as either the 1914 pattern version (with wire wheels, etched) or the 1920s pattern with steel wheels. It will have to be the 1920s one.

 

many years ago I spent a few days at the tank museum at Bovington taking hundreds of detail pictures and measurement of the still working one preserved there. David Fletcher arranged for me to be able to go in with the cleaners early in the morning before the public came in so I could use studio lighting and a medium format camera on a tripod. My plan is still, albeit many years later, to scratchbuilt it in 1/8th scale in Nickel Silver but that will be after I retire.

So I did a bit of headscratching about how to do the hood. Ended up cutting down a gauge 1 cotton wagon tarpaulin which is black on one side and white on the other. the overhang at the front was a piece of black plasticard with the fabric bonded to it and allowed to set hard onto the top of the windscreen. This gave me a bit of a chance to tension it as I pulled it and glued it towards the rear

 

 

So there was more conjecture about the lettering

Weather rotten! Complete wasted weekend apart from the wife getting her Covid vaccination so stuck indoors I've done a bit more Z ( More work on the Patriot 4-6-0 and the MGR Coal wagons) and added the mail bags and the rest of stowage to the Caddy

 

Did the waterslide decals but not on Microscale decal sheet, that was shot, and I'm not sure about this other stuff. It has tried curling up on one edge so may end up coming off again.

 

 

I'd just sent a message to Redog that the sandbags hadn't turned up when they plopped through the letter box. The Lee-Enfield rifle is a Scalelink whitemetal one

 

 

The rope is model ship's rigging. Looking at the few photos of the real Caddys I think they just tied onto anything solid enough. The lack of any pictures has led to a lot of speculation but I'm quite please with how it has turned out. Need to find some suitable figures to go with it and then get the Rolls Royce armoured car done. The beach, about 75 yards from my house, is noted for its fine,light 'Lily Sand' so I'm going down with a coffee jar to collect some to do a little diorama

 

There's one thing, I don't think the people at Lindberg would ever have anticipated their 'ultra glossy' Cadillac ending up like this!

Although I'm pressing on with Z gauge at the moment I couldn't resist doing some work on the Meng 1/35th 1914/20 pattern Rolls Royce armoured car. This is to go with the Cadillac as an escort vehicle

 

 

Nicely detailed although some of the components are very delicate indeed

What colour do the instrucions say to paint it? i did my Airfix kit-bash one in khaki drab but think it would better in desert sand? Am I right in thinking they served in the Middle Aast or North Africa? look forward to seeing it finished

When we do the Shoeburyness Model show a load of guys turn up to demonstrate these. They are very impressive but you have to watch your ankles when they go past you!

these were photographed outside with the AWB (Auto white  balance ) on but I'm not convinced by the colour balance. The Roller has got the stowage added both sides

 

seen with the Mercedes Armoured car brought by the Australians to the desert. They soon took the turret off and ran it like this

My interest was piqued from watching those videos on YouTube where they have roads and constructions areas mocked up and they all seem to be coming from Europe.  Scale RC is becoming very popular especially with the advent of 3d printing.  The detail on these trucks are ridiculous but oh man, the cost is just as ridiculous.  I hope to just stay with one truck but I'm already eyeing a Scania 470 and container trailer. 😁
