Meanwhile this is what the layout looks like without the advantage of carefully-posed close-up shots...

Now where I have I seen that kind of mess before......oh I remember 😉

Today's random shots:

The slightly raised section of road to the right of the orange KiHa is inspired by a section of line close to my local station which I pass by regularly and where the parallel road rises up above the line for a short stretch, like this:

Ouch, that brown EF64 needs some love. Hopefully, the depot should be able to service it as soon as it is ready.

It's an old Tomix model (spring worm drive era) which together with the EF66 (ditto) live on the layout for ad-hoc testing and photo shoots.

The train depot takes on a little more shape:

This drain channel (is that what it is?) is a really nice touch. It looks great. Would you mind sharing how you did it?

Cut it out of the sprues from the Kato rural platform set (23-130), they're designed to fit precisely between parallel Unitrack sections but work OK with Tomix.

Nice! Was this just a reuse of an old wamu or one made as a storage shed?

This is a happy case of congratulating myself for hoarding random collections of cheap auction junk and simply being able to reach into a box and bring out a sacrificial wagon. Will reuse the weight to cheaply N-gauge-ize a Tomytec set.

Yup, at some point I'll get round to weathering and generally distressing stuff... Still focussing on basics like track and electrickery stuff, today we see some infill between the depot tracks:

to be smothered in ballast and tarmac/concrete walkways.

Gratuitous shot of the local line behind the depot, with ED18-2 providing some freight action.

ED18-2 has a strong association with the Iida Line, but I have two photos showing it on-depot at Hachioji.
