Looking for something different? U Trains offers 1/80 scale 16.5 mm gauge and OJ 1/45 scale 24 mm gauge.  It is a Japanese language website so I don't know how difficult it would be to purchase. The product line includes some current models and some vintage models.  No Shinkansens.
