Sascha
So my Tomix Tracks came in for my new layout. As I found out that they are tilted or something , so they are a little higher on one side and leave a edge one one side, as shown in the picture. I must have done something wrong, but I can’t figure out what it is. Link to comment
Gryphr
If you purchased those in a set there should be some Approach tracks that transition from level to canted, otherwise you probably need to buy them seperately. These would be the ones for a R391 curve for example: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10312219 1 Link to comment
bill937ca
Approach tracks are usually 22.5 degrees versus 45 degrees for a normal mainline curve. Look closely the two approach tracks maybe attached together in the packaging if you do not have to buy them separately. To do a S curve you will need an approach track before and after each curve and a short straight section (to prevent derailments). EDIT: Yes, Tomix approach tracks are purchased separately. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10312219 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10312216 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10312212 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10312209 Edited November 4, 2017 by bill937ca 1 Link to comment

bill937ca
I find a good way to deal with the knowledge gap is to look at what pieces Tomix includes in the track sets and figure out by the part numbers what I then need to purchase for my particular plan. 1 Link to comment

JR 500系
Understood exactly how confusing the Tomix wide tracks can get... another option is to look at the bottom of the track piece to read what it is intended for, for example, you can find R391/22.5 R or L on the bottom, and I am guessing the Rs go with the Rs and the Ls go with the Ls. If done correctly, you should not be able to see any gap or rise whatsoever in the final product... 1 Link to comment
sandiway
Tomix Wide PC curves are always canted. That makes them super-cool in my opinion. Love to see the trains take canted curves like in real life. As people noted, the 22.5 degree sweep angle tracks transition between flat and canted. There are a few exceptions though. For example, I also use the 605 (10 degree sweep) in my layout to jiggle around the Tomix embankments and they're not canted. Same goes for the 541 curve to straighten out that you'd use after a 541 point. 1 Link to comment
