Sascha
When I looked at my Kato Max, I realized, that the pantographs sink into the roof. I guess its due to height restrictions? Is there a section on the Shinkansen line, where this is necessary? Link to comment
Socimi
Simply because the E4 is a Double-Decker shinkansen that needs to run with the same gauge of conventional single-deck shinkansens. Sinking pantographs into the roof is a common method in europe , where the loading gauge is smaller than the one of the united states, wich allows for Huge and Tall double-deck trains: Italian Trenord TSR http://mondotpl.altervista.org/albums/trenord-milano-/elettromotrici/tsr/r5-049-a.jpg American Metra Highliner http://www.n-sharyo.co.jp/business/tetsudo/images/zusametra-emu2005-2.jpg 1 Link to comment
