JR 500系
Some of my closer forum mates might know I've recently made a trip to China, and here's sharing some photos and videos of the trains in China if anyone might be interested in: Shanghai Subway system The famed Shanghai needle on a cloudy misty day... Look at the crowd in Shanghai High speed train station.... the ridership is definitely good, especially the most common leg from Shanghai to Beijing and vice versa, much like the Osaka Tokyo leg of Japan We rode the 2nd class, or normal class from Shanghai to Beijing, on a train that looks VERY similar to the E2 series... Note we are not allowed onto the platform until the train is fully parked in... I guess this is done to prevent any incidents and that Shanghai is the terminal stop, hence we cant get any videos of the train pulling into the station... The interior, very similar to Japanese shinkansens, except you cant expect the same level of cleanliness, comfort and noise level... Maximum speed is around 305 km/h, pretty fast indeed! We took a side trip to Tianjin from Beijing, which is around a half hour ride, on 2 separate classes, the business class (or Grand class equivalent of Japan) from Beijing to Tianjin, and the 1st class (or Green class equivalent) on the return journey back to Beijing from Tianjin Our ride, a quite similar look to the 885 series Kamome? Business Class or Grand Class interior, served with hot tea The gates before you enter into the platform 1st class or Green Class interior seating... Buffet car in car 5 And we caught a glimpse of what appears to be the newest model that was just put into service... It was all over the news on TV... It looks really like an E7 if you ask me... but boy those grand class seats are BIG! Video of train pulling into the station... Video of the Business class or Grand class seating.... Do take note of the sound the engine makes... and lastly, some photos of the Beijing Airport express that brings you straight to the airport terminals from central downtown for 25 RMB one way: And some bonus pictures of the 'mighty eagle' that carried us! Suica
Thanks for the photos, Sammy! You actually rode the CRH3 which is the Chinese version of the ICE3. Close for the seats, it even looks exactly like that on the inside as well. The Chinese E2 series is called CRH2. Anyway, looks like everything's really well mentained, which is nice! Also that SIA A380! Probably the best A380 there is. Your videos just don't seem to work. Link to comment
Yavianice
The CRH3 is slightly wider than the ICE 3, too. The second class seating is in Shinkansen style 3-2 configurations. Not very comfortable like the ICE seats second class seats however. Not by a long shot. Link to comment
Suica
The CRH3 is slightly wider than the ICE 3, too. That's right. The Russian Sapsan uses the same wide body. They're still quite a bit narrower than the CRH2 trains. No idea about the "completely" domestic Chinese High Speed trains though. Link to comment

The model names just slipped my mind but now they are coming back, yes the CRH2 is the E2 equivalent ~ The videos seem to work fine now, but they aren't last night... I was worried they would be removed by youtube, as there seems to be a policy about sharing photos and videos about China on youtube, goggle or facebook... Link to comment
Kiha66
Great photos 500, I'm having trouble with the videos too, it says that they're unavailable for some reason. Link to comment
cteno4
sammy, i dont think there are any policies about not posting trip videos or pictures of china on youtube and such, many of those services are blocked in china, but have not heard problems outside china. great trip! jeff Link to comment
JR 500系
Haha silly me... It's the privacy settings set to private... I've changed it to public now, please see if it works ? :P Also, do note the noise heard from the bogie... I've never heard this before in the Japanese shinkansen.... Link to comment
cteno4
Ha! Got it, working now. Yes that is a lot of motor noise and clickety clack. Jeff Link to comment

westfalen
My friend and I were able to get some coming and going shots of high speed trains coming and going from the platforms at Guangzhou South by hanging around on the platform after we got off the train from Shenzhen North. No one seemed to worry about us, the only railway employee on the platform was a guy down the end of the platform who looked like he was there sneaking a cigarette. The Americans also like to keep you inside until the train is ready for departure. I had a couple of clear days in Beijing in 2007 and also in Guangzhou a couple of years ago. You've got to call ahead so they can arrange it. :) 1 Link to comment
