Das Steinkopf
Recently I have been indulging in a bit of weathering of some of my freight stock, I am in the process of working through my fleet and the latest stock to receive this treatment is my Koki 50000's and Koki 110's, the later proving to be the more difficult of the lot due to the rather bright looking livery and the contrasting dark grubby filth. I spent a bit of time looking at photos of the prototypes to achieve the right look, the techniques I used was some dark washes of Tamiya Desert Yellow and Black to make a Dark Grey for overall grime and Black for grease, I also did some dry brushing using Tamiya Flat Earth for rust and Desert Yellow mixed with Hull Red to represent dust. Next on the list will be my Koki 106's, 107's as well as my Koki 102 and 103's, from there on I will be turning my attention to my container stock to give it that more decidely used look. Suica
Wonderful! I love weathered rolling stock but I don't feel confident enough to try it myself. Link to comment
cteno4
Sucia, You might give it a try and play some. Best way is to get some cheap cars (like at a train show or swap meet or ebay) and experiment. There are some inexpensive dry powder sets that work well or you can try the old fashion (but still works!) way of using pastels, ground chalks and makeup (dollar store!). Only problem with these is they do need a coat of dull coat to stay affixed when handling. Lots of YouTube videos out there to help you along. As you get more confidence you can start to play with things like ink washes to get neat stained, water marks and rust trail effects. It really is one of those things you just have to dive in and play with and it just takes practice to get some nice effects. Just doing a little can really stand out, you don't have to get uber fancy. Jeff Edited June 23, 2017 by cteno4 Link to comment
