bill937ca
Urawa Station is a station on the JR East serving Tohoku Main Line, the Takasaki line and the Keihin-Tohoku line. The platforms at Urawa Station are in the midst of being elevated, a common means of dealing with dangerous level crossings. Work started in 2004 and will be complete by 2012. The platform elevating project will add for the first time platforms for the Shonan-Shinjuku line which runs on former freight train only tracks. The Keihin-Tohoku platforms are already in use, work on Tohoku tracks is scheduled for completion in 2009 and the Shonan-Shinjuku platforms are scheduled for completion in 2012. The Keihin-Tōhoku Line island platform accommodates 10-car trains (200 m), while the Tōhoku Main Line and Shōnan-Shinjuku Line platforms will be designed to accommodate 15-car trains (250 m). The new elevated section is 1.3 km long. Originally the project was to be completed in 2008-2009, but was pushed back due to land acquisition issues. The view from the elevated platforms.
