Riding the Yamanote on the E235

On Saturday I finally got the chance to ride on the E235, for about a week I got to see it go past my hotel window or the opposite direction when I was on a train. We were heading over to Modeltrainplus and were waiting for a Kehin Tohoku train when my son spotted the E235 heading our way, we then decided to take a ride on the Yamanote for a while and then switch to the Kehin Tohoku. Overall I was pretty impressed with the smooth acceleration and comfortable ride as well as the seating, the E235 is certainly a step up from the E231's and will definitely improve services on the Yamanote Line when the rest of the fleet enters service.

I finally managed to travel on it the other day (apart from a prior two-stop trip when it was jam-packed) - the interior is definitely nicer than the E231s and the advertising monitors aren't as quite a distracting as I imagined (might be different if you're stuck watching them when it's crowded). Not sure if it's my imagination but the acceleration felt slightly more powerful. However I'm not too keen on that "faded dot" pattern motive.

 

Overall an incremental increase over the E231s, from a passenger perspective the difference is much less than between the 205s and E231s.

I traveled on it today.  And there must be more than one now.  As another was coming the other way.

JR East's Niitsu assembly line has been shipping out new E235 trainsets to the Tokyo area since late spring (there are currently eight trainsets in service). Note that the number of paper advertisements inside the E235 is far less than the inside of the E231, since the LCD displays have replaced the majority of the paper advertisements.
