Will be there next week to check out the Nordic Food Court in the Vanderbilt Hall, and hopefully to catch a M8 on a Metro North service out to Connecticut and back.

Vanderbilt hall was where japan week was a few years back that we got to do a layout at. It's really quite a beautiful pair of halls. Grand central is one of those old stations with lots of space and high ceilings in the main area. Great place to spend an hour or two and just find different spots in the station to watch the ebb and flow of people. Would love to so a time lapse there, would look like blood flowing in veins, arteries and capillaries!

Forgot to mention the acoustics in the main hall can be very eerie in places and of course the whisper spots, but I just find it interesting how the sounds of people noise changes in the space

That was a nice space for a layout (and all the other things on display :) ).  Has there ever been any interest expressed at bringing JRM up again?

No, it was sort of a one shot deal. Each year they do different themes and the year we did it it was technology and tourism, so jr east was there. They had an exhibit pull out 6 weeks before the event in the central 4 displays and needed something fast and the organizer also was interested in something fun for the public as well. Luckily at a meeting with jr east she mentioned this and they were the ones who mentioned us, having displayed next to them at the sakura matsuri for years. Jr east ended up offering to pay for our hotel and transportation costs as we were a great example for both the technology and tourism for them! We slammed to get a on off layout done in time to fit the 8'x10' space, but it worked out! The organizer came over to see the layout the first time after we got it up and she broke into tears. I thought at first we had really screwed up, but she was so happy as it was more than she expected! Ended up being he best show we ever have done and visitors were amazingly appreciative and gracious to us. I wish we could do it again, but it was one of those the stars aligned things, but good to have been the chance to do it and we rose to the occasion!

 

The only big bummer was one of the club member who did a lot of work on the temp layout for the show could not go at the last minute due to family demands. Jr east NYC exec director was super nice to us as well giving us several of his personal n scale sets he had in NYC but could not run, it was such an honor! It was also great that several JNS members (including Miyakoji) got down to the show to visit which was great to meet in person.

 

I've been searching for my Picts from the show to no avail... but I'm sure they will show up someday.

 

The cool thing is our club 3.0 layout is pretty much the same plan as the NYC layout as it worked so well with many scenes and simplified track plan. We sectionalized the plan and added expansion modules to make the layout larger and also a yard for the Shinkansen and ground lines. The flexibility in size will help with more opportunities for display where the 2.0 layout was too big. Also module sizes are smaller and engineered better for our current transport vehicles.
