Pashina12
This picture taken at Kamimiyori in 1972 makes me very happy, as it answers a question I've had in my head, with the answer I wanted to find: http://slkyoto.exblog.jp/iv/detail/?s=20584304&i=201306%2F12%2F05%2Fb0221605_9153181.jpg C11 and DMU on the Aizu Line at the same time! Aside from wanting to share the nifty picture, I have a question - I'm reasonably sure is a Kiha25 (because I read that at another picture's caption; but looking at other pictures of Kiha25s elsewhere I don't see the two smaller lights(?) on either side of the headlight like on this one), but what's the one right after? Is it a Kiha23? Link to comment
kvp
My guess is they are not headlights, but horns. Also kiha23 looks similar like the 2nd unit, but i'm not 100% sure. Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Very probably a KiHa 23. Possibly a 500 subseries, but I'm not sure about that... The first unit is very probably a KiHa 55 unit, as these commonly have double horns next to the headlight, but I can't identify the details above the horns. Could even be a KiHA26 subseries. 1 Link to comment
Fenway Park
The difference between a Kiha 25/26 and a Kiha 55 is that the 55 series has two engines while the 25/26 series has one. The angle of the photo is inconclusive. As for the second car, I would agree it is a Kiha 23 with the cab and the opening doors. I presume the Kiha 45 series, the two car variant, was not found on this route. Thanks for the link to another interesting site. Link to comment
Pashina12
I haven't seen any two-car things on the Aizu line, of course that doesn't mean anything. What I have seen are mostly 2 to 4 car lashups of different types - KiHa 25, 26, 28, 17, 23, KiHaYuNi 26 and such, some all red, some red/cream. Either tonight after work or tomorrow, or at the weekend, I'll start looking at the photos I've thus far found to see about identifying the types. Link to comment
