Jcarlton
If you've never been there, it's worth the trip. I collected some videos I found and some of the pics from my visit there into a blog post. Here it is. https://theartsmechanical.wordpress.com/2017/01/30/an-out-of-the-way-museum-to-visit-in-japan-the-meiji-mura-museum/ 1 Link to comment
velotrain
Before I even look past the first image of your blog, I'm going out on a (reasonably sturdy) limb to say this is a FLW designed structure. Link to comment
velotrain
For those who may not know, when FLW designed the Imperial Hotel, it was with the intent to withstand earthquakes. Instead of one solid building, it was modular with each modular built on a concrete pad that was designed to rock and roll with the somewhat muddy (as I recall - from a half-century ago) soil beneath, and it was one of the few structures to survive the great Tokyo earthquake. It saddened many when it was demolished. Link to comment
Jcarlton
Not only is that a Frank Lloyd Wright structure, it IS the Imperial Hotel, at least the lobby. How they moved it to Meiji Mura must be a story in itself, but there it is. That's what led me to the place in the beginning. The rest was a HUGE bonus. Nick_Burman
Incidentally, what of Baldwin 9? When I was there a few years ago the loco was nowhere no be seen. Cheers NB Link to comment
