I'm not sure that qualifies as "battling", as the only time the plows make contact with the snow is where the street plows have piled it up at a platform ;-)

The only way to really clean down to the groove is to use a snow sweeper aka snow broom. Hope you're not driving with your window open. In Japan only Hakodate and Sapporo use snow sweepers.
