gavino200
My son and I were thinking that, instead of populating our 'Little Japan' with just regular people figures, it might be fun to stock it also with some figures from Japanese anime and manga. Does anyone know if anything like this is available? Naruto, Studio Ghibli, Akira, even Digimon would be good. It might be nice to have the city visited by an Evangelion or two but I think they might be giant even in n-scale. If anyone has seen anything like this in N scale please let me know. If available only in Japan that's ok, as we'll be visiting Tokyo in March. (I think this is unlikely, but with Japan you never know) Edited January 3, 2017 by gavino200 Link to comment
locidm
Great idea! I have a collection of Japanese super robots. I've always wanted to check which one is scaled to 1/150 to be placed on my layout. If your son is into Macross, Tomytec recently released some 1/150 VF-1s and VF-31s in all modes. :) Link to comment
Drunkenclam
The only one I've heard of is ToHeart. For some reason I have a ToHeart2 pachislo next to my layout :D Link to comment

This is exactly what I was looking for......except.....not ToHeart. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10046813 The same kind of thing for Naruto would be amazing. Link to comment

I also found some good Evangelion models in 1/400. I think the scale change is justified given how enormous those things are. Link to comment

They have some interesting stuff. They're a bit Gundam heav. Not too many tiny characters. Some weird stuff there like "Girly Air Force" (below). I can't imagine anything like that coming from the US or Europe. Japan is just so bizarre. http://hlj.com/product/TMT26399 1 Link to comment

Rod.H
Tomix also did some Comic Party figures http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10055580 and I've seen some possibles made by Kobaru http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/search?typ1_c=104&cat=rail&target=Organization&searchkey=Kochira+Katsushika-ku+Kameari+Koen-mae+Hashutsujo http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10421258 http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10421257 You could always check out the capsule toy ranges I've got a small scale Evangellion from one of them that's about 2-3 lego minifigs tall, Link to comment

What did you search? I wonder if Tomix have had other special releases. Capsule toys were a good idea. I found these: https://www.estarland.com/product22547.html At an inch and a half they're too big for n scale, but I might track them down and buy them anyway. Link to comment
Rod.H
Those are potentially usable as a statue. As for the Comic Party figures, I clicked on the Diorama Characters tag on the page for the ToHeart figures, though I'd expect any of those sets to be difficult to find considering they were produced in 2004. I would think there would be more out there considering the potential popularity, I'd love a little N scale Lupin the III chase scene that I could place on a layout. There's probably a garage kit maker that's made one. Link to comment
keiichi77
I have 8 of the 1/144 scale Tomytec Gimix Macross VF-1 models which I plan on putting on my layout. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10377983 There are tons of Gundam 1/144 scale mech kits available and some unpainted figure packs, although I couldn't imagine painting a 1/144 scale figure. As for anime figures they are much harder to find and are long out of production. The Tomytec Ultimate Nipako truck set comes with 1 figure with blue hair. http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10348026 As mentioned above the Tomytec Gimix Girly Airforce jets come with 1 to 2 figures each but are rather pricey. medusa
..., although I couldn't imagine painting a 1/144 scale figure. It is not that hard. You need very fine brushes, I took "000" size from an art supply store. A good magnifying glass is mandatory, best one mounted on a support or so. Good lighting also helps. I painted tiny 1/148 cat figures that way. So, it is doable. Edited January 4, 2017 by medusa Link to comment
kvp
A sharpened toothpick could work too, or very fine point paint pens. Link to comment
Zuihochan
I have a platz set of three 1/35 Girls und Panzer anime figures. Comes with anime eyes decals. Smallest I've seen. But may be out of your price range if you want to populate your layout with as it costs approximately $70 for three figures. Only a stupid die-hard fan like me would make that poor life decision. ;) but for the 1/80 hatsune miku idol I'm making for my ho layout I'll probably just repaint the hair colour and outfit. At that scale I think minor detailing is not needed. Since my layout has about 500 people on it I don't she'll be noticed at all! There is a lot of anime trains though. I own a Tomytec K-on two car keihan unit. Hope this helps. Link to comment
Rod.H
I've a few sets of them and I know that I didn't pay that much for one set, it was that much for 2-3. I also have a few of the related 1/35 tank kits, not all of them just the ones I like, like the Maus, Hetzer(Turtle), StugIII (Hippo) and a Tiger. I've a few of the Space Battleship Yamato mechacolles they could be used as a layout decoration. I don't think the actual Space Battleship Yamato model I've got would work for me due to it's size. The funny thing was I bought it for the trucks, I never noticed it came with a figure until I opened the box....BONUS! ;) I never installed the pliers on mine and don't plan to do it. 1 Link to comment
