I believe we traveled thru Kanpur by train when we were in India.

...and this is the country that thinks it can jump straight into using Shinkansen. Fundamental problems not being addressed are lack of investment in basic infrastructure and poor maintenance coupled with a make do and mend approach to minimise costs at the expense of reliability and safety. This is what the Government should be addressing rather than trying to reduce journey times for a minority.
