scott
Are the elevators included in the Kato 23-118 "platform accessory kit" (seen in this very large image) intended to be elevators coming up to the platform from below? (If so, theyt might work with one of our stations, and make my job easier.) Also--is there any way to get these things without buying the entire kit? I need three, but there's only one per kit. $37 plus shipping from Japan is a lot of money for three plastic elevators! Link to comment
CaptOblivious
I can't get the link to open, so I can't see the image. I know the set you're talking about though, and depending on the specific contents, you might very well convince me to buy a few of the other items in the sets to help defray your costs, if you decide those elevators are what you want. scott
Sorry about the bad link; here's the page that links to the picture: http://www.katomodels.com/product/nmi/kinko_homu_e.shtml And thanks for the offer to share the costs; if I can't find a way to get just the elevators, that could be a good solution. Just putting in perspective. If I going to build the suburban station with expansion set plus 2 island platforms of 8 parts each + 2 platform accessories would equal 17855 Yen or $209 Cdn or $189.42 US + tax + shipping. Tenorikuma
Yes, those elevators are coming from below — although it doesn't make much sense with an overhead station kit. Link to comment

I really like the new Kato suburban stations but when I calculated the cost including the Kato platforms that is when I looked into kitbashing the older Kato overhead stations with the Walther's butterfly platforms. Oh, well, it might not make sense, but it works for me. I'm planning to scratchbuild our main station, and if I can have elevators as well as the usual platform steps from below, the platform access will make sense. There'll just need to be a ramp or some escalators to connect it to the underground passageway. Link to comment
cteno4
Scott, looks like something that if you got a chopper and a few packs of styrene I or H beam and drop it on Robyn's desk you might get a whole patch of them. the clear glass housing will be a small challenge, but i bet walking around the craft store might find some little clear plastic dodad that makes the approx sized housing! seems like the thing you could bet her she could not reproduce and get proved wrong! cheers jeff btw they are only 1040 yen at hobbyworld and 580 for sal for one and 980 for 3! EWS60008
I am tempted to buy that station as a pack to make 4 platforms loosely based on Barnetby in Lincolnshire . Link to comment

to2leo
scott, your order of three pushed them from a 3 day backorder to sold out! jeff So 3 day back order means it will come 3 days later? I am confused about that option from HW Japan. Link to comment
cteno4
the backorder days are the number of days it takes them to get it in, so usually add that to the time it usually takes them to put an order together from stuff hey have in stock (usually a day or two at most). most of the 1-3 day backorder tuff i have ordered has been ready to ship in 1-3 days after the order was placed with HW. once an order got held up for about 4 weeks with some stuff that had a week backorder, although it may have just gotten stuck in process as i emailed them and they send an email right back apologizing and the order was ready later that day. i expect it may have taken a while to come in and just got pushed aside when it did come in and they forgot to ship it! cheers jeff Link to comment

cteno4
Scott, now you did it! from what i have heard of the channels in japanese retail they tend to keep inventory numbers low and have more rungs in the distribution ladder. bad news is if you buy a bunch of something it can clear the channels out for a while, good news is they seem to be resilient... be interesting to see how long it is till they list it as something they have back in stock or can backorder. cheers jeff Link to comment

scott
They just came in--I'll probably unpack them in the next few days. Things have been too nutty lately for me to anything with them. Link to comment
