railsquid
I was passing through Helsinki last night and as my hotel was close to the main railway station I took the opportunity for a quick look and some photos. Kitayama
The last picture shows a car in the train for Kolari. Kolari is a small ski resort 995 km from Helsinki very close to the Swedish border. The last 200 km of the line from Kemi to Kolari has only seasonal passenger traffic with three trips/week. You managed to catch a rare bird... https://www.vr.fi/cs/vr/doc/7-18_Helsinki-Rovaniemi-Kemijarvi-Kolari_Ilm-Yv_20.6-10.12.2016.pdf Best regards from a very white Stockholm. It has been snowing the whole night. 1 Link to comment
railsquid
I was interested to learn that the locomotives hauling it were of Soviet construction, albeit soon to be replaced. Nothing against Soviet-built locomotives BTW, one of them (very much diesel) used to turn up daily at about 4pm in front of my apartment in Berlin to shunt the Spanish-built sleeper train in the general direction of electrification, and I seem to have a couple (much shrunken) in my possession. Snow however belongs in Other Places. Link to comment
