Cool things you can do in HO

While i know it could be done in N it would be quite a challenge. always makes me want to have done HO when i see things like this, but then when you see the $1k price tag it kinda goes poof!

Yes, that looks like Maerklin roadbed nailroad track. They have a custom digital system too, to make things even less compatible. I think this would be doable in N as long as the crane is a larger box shaped covered winch one with lots of space inside. (3 DC micromotors would work nicely with each function mapped to F1-F2, F3-F4, F5-F6 and maybe F0 for some lights and the decoder and rotation motor hidden in the car frame and only the power going up to the crane box with the 2 motors)

yes doable but not easy and a lot of very fine work with gearing it all down well. plus 2 pole rotary collector system. and then cramming it into a space at best 1.5"x5/8"x1/2"... HO gets you 8x the volume to work in!
