tossedman
Went to Heritage Park here in Calgary this afternoon and rode this. We've probably ridden this train a hundred times in the past 8 years or so. My ten year old loves it. Kind of nice that we can hear it's whistle from home. It's only about 5 km from our house. It's a Lima, #8410, built in 1944 for the US Army by the Lima Locomotive Works time in Lima, Ohio. It's been renumbered CPR 2024 by the Heritage Park Historical Village. There's another Alco 0-6-0 CP 2023 that runs around the 1.3 km long railroad as well. Neither engine was actually run by the CPR. Top speed is 11 km/h in the park. That's 7 mph. bill937ca
Ever been to Fort Edmonton? It has streetcars and a steam train. And on the High Level Bridge there is a Japanese streetcar. Osaka 247. Unfortunately its not running at this time. Link to comment
tossedman
Hi Bill, Yup, been there, done that. My sister lives in Edmonton so we're up there quite often. We were up there a couple of Sundays ago and rode the Melbourne tram over the high level bridge. The museum is only one Saturdays so we missed the Japanese tram this time. tossedman
And speaking of trams, we were in Whitehorse, Yukon in 2013 and rode the tram there. It's from the Companhia de Carris de Ferro de Lisboa (Carris) in Lisbon, Portugal. Since there are no overhead power lines they have a creative solution. They tow a diesel generator behind the tram. kvp
This is seriously cool, the tram is actually a diesel-electric unit now. The paint is also nice. 1 Link to comment
