bill937ca
This summer JR East is adding a 3-car comic train through Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima prefectures between July 23 and Aug. 6. Train cars will be themed on "One Piece," "Ace of Diamond" and "Case Closed." Note that the operating schedule is very limited. Asahi Shimbun news story. Sacto1985
Surprised they didn't do that to a KiHa 100/110 trainset, given JR East has done a number of tourist-oriented modifications the KiHa 100/110 to attract tourists to the Tohoku region since 2011. Link to comment
bikkuri bahn
^^ It's a summer-season only effort, so they are merely taking an existing joyful train consist (kiha 40/48 "furusato") and applying the exterior wrapping. Something of this duration wouldn't warrant the expense of modifying a regular trainset, or pulling a tourist train (which actually earns revenue for the railway long-term) off its regular diagram. Robert46
Oh no.. another temptation!! why now so many trains coming in special wrappings.... Oh dear. KiHa 40 and 47s. MicroAce will empty out my wallet. haha Micro Ace is indeed the one who will blow out our wallet, as it's always did from the beginning of time.. haha.. :P There may be hope. It might be Tomytec. Really hope this will come true thru Tomytec.... although we never know when.. other option is hoping a japanese special design decal maker will also look for it, so we can use standard Kiha and put the decal on it..
