bikkuri bahn
Interesting list from the JR East website, showing the average age of each type of rolling stock in the fleet: http://www.jreast.co.jp/e/data/procurement/rolling_stock.html 3 Link to comment

ToniBabelony
That's a very interesting list! Thank you for sharing. Interesting they have 320 freight cars. I wonder why? They probably have maintenance vehicles included as freight cars, so then it's easy to come up with a relatively high number. Link to comment
Das Steinkopf
I wonder if they might be referring to per way rolling stock such as ChiKi's or Hoki's. Also there seems to be a lot of locomotives on the list, I wonder if these are predominantly small shunters, especially since JR East has divested itself of mainline units such as EF64-1000's and EF510's. Sacto1985
Look at the average age of the E2 Shinkansen fleet, I wonder when will JR East start a large-scale retirement of them? Since E2 production lasted a long time, I expect the newer trainsets to hang around on the Toki, Tanigawa, Nasuno and Yamabiko trains for some time. Link to comment
