ToniBabelony
Of all the commuter lines in the Kanto area, the Tokyu Oimachi line probably has some of the most interesting stations (e.g. Kuhonbutsu which can only handle four cars) and operation patterns (two types of 5-car local trains and 6-car expresses all the way to the far end of the Den'en Toshi line). Not to mention the cute, and sometimes very lively, shopping streets with family operated businesses. For me, the only off-putting thing is the gaudy paint scheme of the rolling stock... cteno4
Well better protection and warning than you get on a busy street corner in philly! Jeff Link to comment
Densha
(e.g. Kuhonbutsu which can only handle four cars) Funny how there is actually space to extend the platform for a five-car train, but how there is a crossing in the way: 2 Link to comment
kvp
Seems like a simple job to just make an underpass or remove the crossing and move any traffic one corner down the line. Link to comment
ToniBabelony
Kuhonbutsu only has about 12.900 or so passengers per day, and closing the crossing for that amount probably doesn't justify all the trouble. A complete elevation of the line would be more logical in this sense. However, I don't see that happening any time soon, as it's not a very heavily used line in comparison to the Toyoko and Den'entoshi lines. 1 Link to comment
miyakoji
Do the formations on the Oimachi line have some way for the conductor to select various "door open" options? Is there any through-running from/to other lines under normal operations? Link to comment
kvp
It looks like Togoshi-koen station on the same line had a more severe problem, with only 3 cars fitting out of 5 and it was fixed recently. Selective door opening seems to be a must there... Link to comment
westfalen
I might put this on my to-do list for September. Quirky little lines like this in Tokyo that haven't been elevated or put underground yet are fascinating. Link to comment
railsquid
Not that many left, come to think of it. Even part of the Seibu Shinjuku line will be disappearing into the subterranean. 1 Link to comment
