Strong earthquake in Kyushu

There was a 4.8 at Shimabara today.  First one on the Peninsula.  Hopefully not too much will follow like Kumamoto.

The bad:- 4.3 at Tsukawaki near Bungo Mori Station yesterday.

 

The good:- Aso Boy running on May 3,4,5, 7 and 8 between Hakata and Mojiko for one return service a day.

Still an on-going series of small quakes around the region, every couple of hours, and an M4.4 with maximum intensity 5+ yesterday.

Luxury sleeper train Nanatsuboshi (Seven Stars),resumes operation May 7 over a different route.  Asahi Shimbun news story.

I doubt it will be doing the old south route for a while.  It is a boon for the Yanagawa region though.  I wonder if they bus it and view the old Chikugo Rail Bridge?

Trans Kyushu Express started operations again today between Aso and Beppu.  Rails between Higo-Ozu and Aso are still poo poo.

Google map has the landslide viewable on the satellite images for the Hohi Line.  Just north of the slip, you can see the rails and sleepers across the road.  The line ran parallel with the road.

West of that large slip you can also see the smaller slip of Tateno, which destroyed a number of houses and the Tateno Pumping Station.
