Venerable ED221 (Baldwin, 1926) and the equally ancient KI104 Russell snowplow clear the tracks near Ishikawa from a late season heavy snowfall.

amazing how clear the tracks got and how well the batteries in the ED221 are working with out catenary! ;-p

are those your locos out in the snow?

ive often wondered what it would look like to run my ma rotary into a pile of fake snow powder! im sure it would be a mess.

Actually I only realized later that the track was much too clear - I should have put some snow on the section of flex so only the railheads showed.  I cropped out most of the incriminating evidence - including the catenary ;-)

I originally got the ED221 with the intent to stage various proto ballast train scenes - after the Tomix Hoki 800's are released next month.  However, I inadvertently found the old Tomix plow model.

I may try it again next winter, with some improvements:

1.  Add the details to the ED221 - number boards were included, but they lack the proto white outlining, so I'll have to try to add that.

Any suggestions -  Some sort of "pad" painting?  Really tiny brush?

2.  Paint over the stripe on the plow and add glazing - unless I get one of the World Kogei complete models

3.  Create a photo plank with catenary

4.  Put it out near the end of a light, fluffy snowfall - so it hopefully gets a realistic coating without being buried

5.  Maybe try shooting while the snow is still falling, as in this great shot I just discovered yesterday
