bikkuri bahn
Hmm, so it's a crap shoot as I expected. I'll try to make a mid-week shoot early then. Still need to work out how to get there from Shin-Osaka. Well, if you're looking to train and hoof it to the bridge, from Shin-Osaka take the subway Midosuji line to the next station at Nishinakajima Minamigata, and transfer to the Hankyu Kyoto Line (down direction to Kyoto). Get off at Awaji Station and walk the approx. 1.3km to the river. Link to comment
Mudkip Orange
I might need to map that out then. 1.k isn't too far, jsut don't know my way around Osaka. IF we were talking okyo, that's a different story. Where is okyo? Link to comment
Guest ___
You'll have to be careful about the times when you visit this bridge. There are 7 (scheduled) trains that traverse this bridge in each direction a day, but some of those run "as needed" or run only on weekends or weekdays, so the actual number is smaller. Think of a typical secondary freight line in the U.S. to get an idea. Also, the schedule times are somewhat approximate, since we are talking about freight. This blog has a schedule of the trains that run on this route (Jyouto Kamotsu Line): http://d.hatena.ne.jp/katamachi/20080812/1218602165 The top table is down trains, bottom is up trains. The bridge is between Suita (吹田) and Shigeno (鴫野). In the remarks column on the far right you have motive power type as well as exceptions: 月曜運休 does not run Mondays 休翌日運休 does not run Sun/holidays (土休日) runs Sat/Sun/holidays 臨時 runs as needed 日曜運休 does not run Sundays I mapped out my route to the bridge. Google maps and the 3D view really help for this. It should make for an interesting morning. Sadly it looks like I might lose a lot of my morning just waiting around for one or two trains. Yes, I understand you there given all the other railway goodness in the area. But I put myself in US railfan mode, where even seeing one train on a freight line in a whole day was cause for celebration. Perhaps bringing food, drink and a good book (but not too good- you might miss the train!) would help pass the time. Link to comment
Guest ___
Well, I can afford no more than four hours tops for this shot as I just do not have that much free time there, so I'm hoping for something shorter than that in wait time. Also have Hankyu and the Rapi:t trains to cover that day as well. Link to comment
Guest ___
First of let me state, walking down to the river is easier said than done. In fact I missed the only local of the morning just trying to get down there. Secondly the first day I tried to shoot there was when I missed the 6:45 and nothing else ran over that bridge between 7a and noon when I was standing in the middle of that bridge over the river. For a bridge that has posted "NO BIKE RIDING - WALK BIKE OVER BRIDGE PLEASE" that no one took heed to it as I was dodging bikes and motor scooters for five hours along with ped traffic. This made for an interesting dodge if peds and bikes arrived at the same time which was often the case between 7a and 10a On the second day I missed a 6a train but just managed to catch the 6:45. I will say this, traffic on the bridge is much lighter than even most secondary lines here in the states. The DE10's I saw run a pretty good clip on the bridge and I was surprised to see a 60kph sign for speed on the line. Link to comment
stevenh
Right, I've added the latest timetable for this bridge (minus the dead-head movements, they're not in the timetable.) Unfortuantely I don't go into as much detail as the blog listed above, but you can use both to work out the in-between timings. Here's the link to my freight timetables. Guest ___
Could've used that six months ago. :angel7: I spent a LOT of time standing around waiting. BTW: Both days I did the bridge, I did not see either of these: 8074~8075 0936-1059 1105 1152 Container 87 1136-1201 1207 1252 Container 4071 1427-1255 1250 1211 Container Here's 4070: Link to comment
