Bernard
After I fitted the sections together I had to paint them the same colors to match. Here are some photos: Link to comment
cteno4
Bernard, Hey great work! this is going to be interesting. i have had 4 of these sitting here on the shelf (bought them cheap at a train show from a dealer dumping a lot of kato stuff) thinking of doing something like this. we have a 4 track local station we have been trying to tie into the shinkansen station on the new jrm layout and i was thinking a couple of these like this might do the trick, but maybe 3... thanks for the photos, good to see what it looks like going together for me to knoodle on. bet joe is lovin this as well. cheers jeff Link to comment
Bernard
Jeff - Where do you find these great deals? If I had to do it again, I would make sure that the overhead stations were the same. As I said previously one is an older set from a kit that you had to assemble. It would have been easier to have the kits instead of the assembled ones. There has been a lot of "sawing" of plastics to make the sections fit together. The next step is to test fit the station into area that it is going to go. The outer most track on the right is my "DCC programming track" and it has to be shorten to accommodate the stairs to the overhead station. The good thing is that the ballast and cork roadbed will come up easily by just adding a lot of water to it so it dilutes the white glue. Link to comment
cteno4
LOL, this was luck. the local train show just happened to have a dealer who bought out a LHS that went out of business and they were selling off kato track and buildings less than 50 cents on the dollar for a lot of items. needless to say a lot of the club came back from the guys tables with a bag full (or two). i got a kato throttle for i think $24, wish i had bought a few of them! also got the big rural and suburban stations for like 60% off as they were not selling. #6s were like $11. was a great day! have to come up with an overhead station like this for the new jrm layout so seriously noodling this design! other option are the tomix overhead which i have 3 of that could do the trick, but looks odd with the small connecting tunnels and is harder to trim the roofs of those to butt up against each other like this. scratch built is another option, maybe with the green max kits like Mike Bloes did. cheers jeff Link to comment
wasunka
Cool! Wish I could have been there and blown the budget - gladly! Goodies can always be allocated later. Snag and bag first! I think I've figured out my design. I'll be starting the woodwork soon. First, a trip to visit relatives in Florida. So, I'm out of pocket for the first half of October. Joe Link to comment
wasunka
I have finally built the ttrak module bases for my main station. It is split between two 3' sections. The idea of a tram loop on a lower level has been shelved. That complexity was the main holdup on making progress. I can't post any pictures right now. My XP machine died. Terminally. I'm using a Win98 box until "April 15" when a new machine is budgeted. West Texas Joe Bernard, As I ploted against my terminal stations, I decided that I wanted the combined units to be offset, not aligned square. Now that some more pieces have arrived, I'll do a mockup and take pictures sometime next week. "Stay tuned, film at 11." West Texas Joe Link to comment
