What's going on here?

I'm guessing this is a ceremony of dedication, or giving a blessing to this new piece of sophisticated track machinery.  I can see a temporary shrine set up, and a spiritual figure.  I couldn't identify the religion, but that may be a drum in front of him.  Perhaps some beverages on the table to the right of the track.

I later found an image of the equipment  involved in the ceremony.

A Shinto ceremony, presumably to bless the machine (which I see is holding its hands in front of its mouth in a pose of demure cute embarassment).

Is there any text to go with the picture?

As is usually the case, I just grabbed the photo from Google Images without going to the site.

I'm quite visually oriented, so will just fly through hundreds of images at a time.

The one exception is when I'm not allowed to view the image, but can access it on the site.

That's a ballast regulator built by Plasser Theurer. The company using it is Senken Kougyou, a construction firm based in Sendai Miyagi Prefecture. One of the services they provide in their portfolio is trackwork, including that for Shinkansen lines.

Possible source for those Shinto ceremony pics:

It's a KSP2002E and they are praying for Greenmax to finally release a model of it.

If you go to www.images.google.com and click the camera icon on the right end of the search bar you can enter the URL of a picture or upload one yourself. Google will then search the internet for visually comparable images. Using that function I found this web page: http://hirotajinja.or.jp/page-11449/

So in case you lost the source of an image next time, this is the way to find it back.

It's not so much that I lose it, as never had it in the first place ;-)

However, that's a great technique - thanks.

That's pretty amazing stuff - it seemed like I had just selected the image to upload when I got the result.

I like the last line, "We would like to pray for safety from Aomori Station."

Is Aomori Station known for attacking people?

In regards to searching for the source of an image, if you use Google Chrome, you can right-click on it and the option to search Google for this image appears.
