bikkuri bahn
On New Years special schedules are run with trains running past midnight to the early morning hours, to accomodate revelers and people going to hatsumode such as at Meji Jingu. Otherwise the usual Sunday/holiday schedule. Link to comment
railsquid
Do trains run on a reduced schedule on holidays? On public holidays most companies run the weekend/Sunday timetable. Over the New Year period when things are quiet, weekend or reduced timetable may be applied to normal weekdays as well. The same might apply during o-bon and/or golden week, particularly to buses. Varies by company and route. On New Year's eve some lines run later-than-normal trains or even all-night ones. Link to comment
