ToniBabelony
Very interesting! Very busy crossing indeed! just curious, do all these trains really come together in a crossing like this in real life? :P Not necessarily at a crossing, but you aaalways have Omiya as an excuse where all JR East trains meet. Hey, I've even spotted a few Odakyu 4000 and Tobu Spacia there xD Link to comment
serotta1972
Been working on the railroad - elevated and electrified. I've been buying catenaries and lots of 2" piers - I really like the look of the closely spaced piers compared to a recent setup I had. This also allowed me to place catenary posts that are evenly spaced out. 6 Link to comment
Kiha66
Love the setup Junior, how did you feed power to the single track viaduct? The 115's look right at home! Link to comment
serotta1972
I replaced the track on an S62 Viaduct with a terminal track - it looks like it was made for it as it has holes on the bottom of it. 4 Link to comment
Kiha66
Neat trick, I may do the same! Thanks for sharing, the picture helps a lot! Inspired by your setup, I'm thinking of doing the table with green cloth and temporary unitrack layouts in my apartment next year. Decided I probably won't want to lug my (very slowly progressing) actual layout up there and and then back at the end of the year. Link to comment
serotta1972
Took out some Kato JRF Locomotives and replaced the couplers and added on the details parts except for the grab bars. I attempted to apply the numbers on the EF210 but they wouldn't stick. 9 Link to comment
nah00
Trying to get the numbers on the EF-210 is a bit of a nightmare. Mine has some discoloration where I used clearcoat to seal them. Luckily the new version comes with number plates. Link to comment

Luckily the new version comes with number plates. I succeeded on applying the numbers on the DF50. Should the surface be prepped or something so the numbers will adhere better? Not a big deal, the main thing for me is the couplers and the roof details. @ beakaboy - I can send you the grab irons from my EF210, I can just put them in an envelope and mail it. PM me. nah00
I just washed it with a paper towel with a bit of dish soap and warm water to get any residue off of it and then let it dry in the sun. Also found that popping off the shell and taking the pantographs off of the roof made it a whole lot easier (easier being a relative term). The ones on the side aren't awful since you can use scotch tape to hold them in place while you apply them but the ones on the front are really annoying because of the angle on the cab. serotta1972
Had to give my Tomix Locos some love - did some modeling overtime and replaced rapido couplers, installed number plates, roof details and overcame my nemesis - those darn grab irons. I event installed the round thingies on the front of the locomotive (my apologies the name escapes me) on the EF65 and EF66. I think I earned a few modeling points tonight. :) 4 Link to comment
Kiha66
Nice job with the Head Marks Junior! I wish tomix couplers worked with kato and other knuckle types, those are some beautiful models. Link to comment
serotta1972
Ah "head marks" - thanks Sam! This was bugging the hell out of me. Yeah, it sucks that they can't seem to agree with a standard knuckle coupler that works across brands. But even within Kato, they have different TN couplers now. The new 83 Shonan Color only works with the new 115's. Link to comment
Kiha66
I noticed that as well, I'm somewhat disappointed as I wanted to make some of the more colorful JNR trains I've seen, where they combined random yokosuka (and sometimes other) colors into shonan color trains on the tokaido line. I hope the new type is available as a separate part that can be added to older trains. Link to comment

Once you do a couple you get your confidence up. Also the fact you get extra grab irons helps too so you don't have to panic when one goes flying. Link to comment
serotta1972
Thanks, yeah most definitely and let me tell you I didn't bat a thousand with any of them. So it was nice having those extra ones. Now I might go back and attempt to install the Kato grab irons. Link to comment
serotta1972
Brought out the European High Speed Trains - I really like these trains but oh man, it's nerve wracking uncoupling them as it feels like you're gonna break them. The scissor type coupler used for the end cars are even more annoying. But when I do get them out, it's such a great sight. Thank you Kato for making these HST's and at a very affordable price relative to other European offerrings. I'm really looking forward to the ICE 4 train and might be willing to pay European train prices. 7 Link to comment
serotta1972
I was able to sneak in another running session and brought out the 10 car, 9 car and 6 car 115's Yokosuka colors to take advantage of the longer sidings. 3 Link to comment
cteno4
Junior, you are so good to play with your trains so much. They have a very worthy owner to be sure! Cheers Jeff 1 Link to comment
nah00
The original orange TGV is the one that always makes me nervous when I couple or uncouple it. But I do love the fact that despite being from 1989 it's still a solid runner (I suspect the original owner never ran it more than a few minutes). Now if I could only find the add-on set for a price I can swallow. 1 Link to comment

Cheers Jeff No no Jeff, I don't play with my trains - I operate them. Haha! I consider myself to be a Model Train Engineer with a license to drive/operate everything from a PCC Trolley to Japanese and European high speed trains. Yes, I love playing with trains. :) 4 Link to comment

One of my all time favorites and first Kato sets along with the Series 0. 2 Link to comment
serotta1972
Didn't want to deal with crowds to go see fireworks so ran some trains instead. I think these trains are appropriate for the occasion. :) 7 Link to comment
