At 1:48 you can see the rather substantial terminal station at Sumoto. As this line was closed in 1966, around the time the railfan hobby had just started to get established, photographic and motion film record of this line is not as much as you would expect of such a unique and appealing line. Probably its location on an island also hindered access for all but the most serious.

Good site with pictures of many of the stations:

Cool.  Here's a page with present day photos that follow the line's path, with corresponding numbered points on maps: http://www.hotetu.net/haisen/Kansai/130120awajitetudou.html

The east end was at Sumoto, here: https://goo.gl/maps/v7aT6sG59Su

Roughly the midpoint, I think this is where Awaji Hirota Station was: https://goo.gl/maps/Lf9Ug8ALpbr .  It's number 15 (written in red, not blue) about halfway down the page linked above.  He writes that there's no trace left of the station, and he's not kidding.

The west end was Fukura: https://goo.gl/maps/6pcqJ2N2B7n

Lastly, here are some upsetting pictures of the deconstruction of the signals, etc, and scrapping of the cars: http://www.wind.sannet.ne.jp/shimada/sab2.html

When I look at maps.  I sometimes think "if" Shikoku ever got a Shinkansen, (which is highly unlikely).  Awaji would probably be a good route.  Shin-Osaka, Kobe, Awaji, Kita-Tokushima/Shin-Tokushima (some kinda of northern Tokushima station), Miyoshi (services a lot of local lines), Shikokuchuo, Matsuyama.

But there is already 2 highways between MAtsuyama and Tokushima.  So will never happen.

Cool pics! I think I need one of these. Looks like a scratch builder's dream.
