Sascha
I was wondering why the 500 Series Shinkansen has yellow headlights. From pictures I have seen online, all trains have white lights. Or ist it beacuse its the 40 anniversary Kansenger edition? Link to comment
1954G
I'd like to know that as well, as my Tomix 98935 500 series also has yellow headlights. I don't dislike them, but it is an odd choice. Even more puzzling: Tomix did include white LED headlights in the Sayonara 500 series set from 2010. Link to comment
HantuBlauLOL
My pre-2004 500 series also had orange lights.. But I think its not that hard to replace the led with a warm white one. Link to comment

Sascha
Hello, There are many reviews: First Second Third ... and many more. Thank you, but I think you misunderstood the question. We would like to know why the Tomix Shinkansen has YELLOW lights, and not how he pairs against the Kato model. Link to comment
brill27mcb
How old is the model? It might just be a case of improving LED technology over the years. Yellow LEDs were available first, and the yellowish-white versions came later. Model manutacturers would use what was best in terms of cost, color and availability at the time the model was produced. katoftw
Aren't the headlights yellow in real life? Link to comment
Krackel Hopper
Just did a quick search for night time photos of the 500 Series.. most of the pictures appear to have yellow headlights. Maybe not quite as yellow as the Tomix model, but certainly have a yellow tint. 1 Link to comment
cteno4
Definitely a warm white, not a cool one! There warm LEDs that look like the above headlight and there are some that are all the way to the yellow! Jeff Link to comment
korat
Hard to be sure without looking at one in person, but it seems to me that Tomix tried to represent the incandescent headlights with yellow LEDs, rather than warm color-binned white (blue+yellow) LEDs. There's a blog post here in which the owner changes the lights out, and I suspect that's the reason the light output increases as well. Link to comment
JR 500系
Ahah! 500系, my favourite ~ I was wondering about this question too, but a quick search on youtube revealed: 500 has yellow headlights from the first day it arrived as Nozomi in 1997 Then the Plarail car had yellow headlights And the actual 40 years Anniversary Kansengar also had yellow headlights... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXZ8UcObE8Y And the latest Evanglion 500 also had yellow headlights So I guess the yellow lights are prototypically correct I guess... Come to think of it, I have yet to see a white headlights 500... 2 Link to comment
Sascha
The power of a Japanese language search. The English search did show lights with a yellowish shine, but I couldn't find a video where it showed them yellow. Thanks for clearing that. :) Link to comment
HantuBlauLOL
The real one has incandescent bulbs, warm white LEDs would be the closest option. 1 Link to comment
