Kb4iuj
I came across a Japanese railcar which looks almost a bit like the Ukrainian flag. Blue & yellow. Currently, Greenmax has brought out their "Techno-Inspector train or car". But, this is not what I'm talking about. As I believe the car that I'm looking for is like twice the size and might be a bit like the I-983 white & red inspection car (50-5001) older version, too. Just found it way back in my photo files. Though, interestingly there's another inspection car with bogies in the center of it. Which looks like it's for a narrow gauge train. What the center trucks for ? miyakoji
I think the first image is MAYA34 2006. The same image is on wikipedia: https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:Maya34_2006.jpg The second one looks like JR East's MAYA50 5001 in a different livery: https://ja.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E3%83%95%E3%82%A1%E3%82%A4%E3%83%AB:Maya50-5001.JPG As for the center truck, I'm not sure how it's used, but it has to do with inspecting the track. kvp
The idea is that the weight of the car is suspended on the two outer bogies and the middle one is free from load and is only lightly guided by the car's frame. This allows the measurement of deformations in the track, both horizontally, vertically or in any angles. Early types used 3 axle cars the same way as the 3 bogie one, with mechanical (paper plot) data recorders attached to the measuring assembly. Link to comment
Sacto1985
That second picture from the first post here: is it attached to a KuMoNi or KuMoYa motorized mail/baggage car? Link to comment
kvp
Yes, it's a kumoya tractor (rebuilt from a baggage car), but considering the lowered pantograph and the end of train markers on both trailer cars pointing both directions, that might be a storage siding with all unused rolling stock heaped together.
