Oz_Paul
This is a repost of what I had posted earlier under Personal Layouts. My next task is to try and automate using 2 Tomix 5563 automation units in sequence if that is possible. i.e. Mode 5 in the first unit (for 3 tracks in the yard) feeds into Mode 4 in the second unit (for the 2 loops with cross over). Layout attached below. Not sure where to put the 4th sensor which is the 'turn back' sensor. This could work if the 2 units could in some way share the same 4th sensor, but not sure how. Is it possible to wire them that way? https://www.hobbyzon...ol/TO5563-1.jpg Edited August 26, 2015 by Oz_Paul Link to comment
kvp
It's possible to make this work, if you add another turnout from the main to the yard track. Then you can set up the yard to operate in shuttle mode with the sensor at the end of the straight, while the inner oval can be set up for the two station, single direction, single track operation. You'll need doule track isolators between the red and blue colored turnouts, while the double crossover takes care of the isolation between the outer (manual) loop and the inner one. If it's set up this way, you can throw the turnouts maked with blue dots to activate the train exchange and you can thow the turnout marked with a red dot to activate the independent shuttle mode. The whole idea is that the trains leave the shuttle area on the single direction departure track avoiding the turn back sensor and joining the mainline traffic, while the trains arrive at the two direction shuttle arrival track and trigger the turn back sensor, which makes them back into the storage area. The trick is the two spring loaded turnouts that can be cut. The left one routes the trains to wards the mainline, while the right one routes the backing trains to the storage area. (the left one can be used to isolate the shuttle area and use it independently, while the two blue turnouts allow the isolation of the inner loop to be used independently) The rail joiner isolators between the red and blue turnout pairs make sure the controllers won't burn each other. They can be crossed as during the crossing, the polarities will match. This layout is set up for right hand running. Just mirror it for left hand running.
