Jimmy D
Hi everyone, If this post is in the wrong group, I apologise.. I would like to change the couplers of my Yamanote E231-500 series EMU set to the tight lock coupler type (with the airbrake pipes) Is this possible and if so, is it relatively easy? Cheers! James. Jimmy D
The couplers are the Kato tight lock coupler type A, the locomotive is also Kato Link to comment
JR 500系
Hi I believe you are looking at this? http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10003622 Kato Coupler Tight Lock Coupler Type A PAT. (Black) (For Arnold Coupler Pocket) (20pcs.) Shouldn't be too difficult, I have this as one of my 201 series couplers broke and I bought this to replace it. Fairly simple and straight forward build. titoit
Good morning everybody!!!I resume this thread to ask you some advices about coupling.I wish to know if it’s possible to couple locomotives and cars from different manufacturers. So if I have a Tomix locomotive, is it possible to couple with Kato freight cars?Or should I replace coupling systems?Thanx!!! kvp
The classic rapido hook coupler is compatible across all brands. For anything else, you'll have to replace the couplers. Usually it's enough to replace one coupler only to match the other. Most rolling stock that are meant to be mix and match coupled arrives off the shelf with rapidos so you don't have to change them. minijapan
I'm also looking for coupler advice! I want to run a fixed train of a microace EF510 with 10 microace type 20500 tankers and want to replace the oversize rapidos can I change the complete train to the kato plastic buck eye? Loco included? Thanks Link to comment
brill27mcb
I don't know ehere you live, but you might want to look for the old Red Caboose dummy knuckle couplers, now produced by Fox Valley Models, or the Bachmann dummy knuckle couplers, both of which fit normal Rapido-style coupler boxes. They come in several shank lengths, so you can pick the most appropriate length for your situation. Here are the Fox Valley short, medium and long on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fox-Valley-Models-FVM-51000-Short-Shank-Coupler-Previously-Red-Caboose-N-Scale-/371749382645?hash=item568dfd69f5:g:2ZAAAOSwbsBXkVTO http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fox-Valley-Models-FVM-51010-Medium-Shank-Coupler-Previously-Red-Caboose-N-Scale-/291892669100?hash=item43f628aaac:g:MXoAAOSw-FZXkVU8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Fox-Valley-Models-FVM-51020-Long-Shank-Coupler-Previously-Red-Caboose-N-Scale-/371689929365?hash=item568a723a95:g:CF8AAOSw4s9XkVYD Rich K.
