Vending machines photos

Hibernating crabs.  I think that's top of my list for strangest ever, although I still find the concept of an egg vending machine pretty odd.

Here's another list of Japanese vending machines, including the egg machine (and a "used underwear" one; apparently those are illegal now).

Here is a funny photograph of vending machines, notice the first machine has a pair of feet underneath ( it's a vending machine costume) :grin

Does anyone know a good free program for windows that can cut an irregularly shaped quadrilateral out and flat it out into a regular rectangle. That would be great for converting the fronts on the pictures into printable format. (most pictures are taken without facing the machine, so the edges of the front plate are not selectable with a simple reactangle)

Kvp,

I'm pretty sure gimp can, msorry not at my Mac right now, mill check. I think it has the trapezoidal selection tool than you can drag the corners to deforme it back flat as possible. I've done this a lot with photoshop, mint does not always work perfectly and at time you may need to crop some out.

I also have scanned all the kato, green max and kobaru vending machine stickers so I can make more easily. I've fiddled with using a piece of plastic channel stock for the vending machine and putting a small smd led in the channel and then gluing the sticker on the front and it seems to work pretty well if you turn the led way down.

Even fancier cast ones done here,

This is my next project to try and come up with a simple way to do this style with the inset clear bit. I thin just using a small pice of thin acrylic in the channel over the led will work with the inset pasted on the backside and front frame on the outside to make the inset area open and glow some.

The kato, green max and kobaru I'm sure they won't want them shared, the sticker sets from kato come with the streel accessory pack and I think there are some in one of the other kato sets as well. Kobaru sells just a sticker set for vending machine fronts.

I'm pretty sure I have something from greenmax as well, I'll look, but if I do I can't remember where it came from.

Btw the other place to get good head on shots of vending machines and signs is google street view.

I definitely need to make an n-scale version of these sleek black ones that I see around Tokyo lately.

Should you be similarly obsessed, I found some great front images of these acure machines on their web site, including the black one on the left.

Thanks for the link!

I spotted a few of the model on the left during my last trip. I was interested by the fact that the real cans and bottles had been replaced by a display, so I thought about modelling that with a small LCD display. But the image is static, so it would not be too interesting to watch...

About a decade ago I was at a trade show where they were showing tiny little lcd screens for push buttons. They were lime 1cmx1cm and I think 64 pixels across. Just enough to put a little icon on the button. Seemed silly not to use a touch screen, but the sales rep said there were situations that required physical buttons for safety, but if the computer control of the button screens goes wonky you would have not idea what buttons you were pushing…
