Thanks for the vid Katoftw!

I like these moving videos.. Show the professionalism of the truck drivers, and I love how the trucks' shiny bumpers and side mirrors sparkle! Isn't the tender itself very heavy? It's strange to see it transported in a trailer by itself in whole unassembled.

katoftw: Yes, thanks for the video. Is the engine being moved so it can be rebuilt and put back into traffic?

JR500: The tender isn't all that heavy when empty, one of my references gives it as 15.5 tons. Unlike the engine, where separating the boiler from the frame is a relatively simple and quick job, separating the tender body from the frame involves removing a lot of rivets. Unless there is severe corrosion in either body or frame that needs repair it's best to leave the two attached. I know this from hard-won personal experience! :)

Cheers,

Mark.

I suppose this SL will be stuffed and mounted and they'll do-up the roundhouse?

Could be bigger/better things to come for this precinct?

The roundhouse is not connected to the line.  I'd believ this to be a static display.

The roundhouse is already quite popular for various reasons.  Train buffs and weirdos whom like disused buildings etc are attracted to this roundhouse.

The town of Kusu brought the area from JR Kyushu about 5-7 years ago.  Yes they have a large ride on model train layout there.  Only about a year old it it.  Some videos on youtube of them riding around on it.  And now this static SL display.  Hopefully more things will comes.

The Kyudai Line and it's wonderful DMUs are on the list to visit come next Japan trip.

For comparison to the video here is D51 1032 in the park at Yufuin in 1990 when you could still read the sign.  She still had her original number plates then, I hope they were removed for safe keeping.
